One tier architecture has all the layers such as Presentation, Business, Data Access layers in a single software package. Applications which handles all the three tiers such as MP3 player, MS Office are come under one tier application.
Single Tier Systems Advantages:
A single-tier system requires only one stand-alone computer. It also requires only one installation of proprietary software which makes it the most cost-effective system available.
Disadvantages:
It can be used by only one user at a time. A single tier system is impractical for an organization which requires two or more users to interact with the organizational data stores at the same time.
