Now buy mutual fund (MF) through your digital wallet

Awesome..., younglings ....this is getting better and better....hmmmm..... Looks like, now one can buy MF using Paytm. Yes sharpies, SEBI-boss of stock exchange, may allow this. So, stirr up your investing mind, raise your hood, forget agonies of payment gateways (enough of broken links) and buy MFs using digital wallet. But WAIT, don't invest more than Rs50K in a year. AND don't start it in next second... wait for a while its still a proposal

Investing through e-wallets.....

This could be a boon for house-wives too. Now instead of saving (by hiding) money in corners of almirah or kitchen (my mom used to put her savings in masala-dani) now you can save in mutual funds.

How???

SEBI* is looking to allow us to buy mutual funds (MF) through digital wallets. Yes, you are right now you may use your Paytm to buy MF.

And what to tell you more ....

SEBI may permit instant withdrawal facility in liquid mutual fund.

But REMEMBER, you can not invest more then Rs50000 in a financial year** using e-wallet.

ADVANTAGES:
  • It is very convenient to use.
  • People are already using it in daily life. So, they would not face any difficulty in switching from traditional saving avenues.
  • Speedy and easy transactions,
  • Less failures due to payment gateway issues,
  • Deeper penetration of mutual funds (now household savings could get channelised into capital markets.)

SOME TECHNICALITIES
  • Asset management companies (AMCs) can tie-up with payment banks to provide digital transaction to investors.
  • AMCs will have to ensure that e-wallet issuers must not offer incentive such as cash back directly or indirectly for investing in MFs through them.
  • AMCs may have to enter into an agreement with payment pre-paid payment instruments for facilitating payment from e-wallets of the investors to mutual fund schemes.

Remember it is still a proposal and SEBI will discuss in this regard next week, sources said.
