Investment can be categorised as trade and non-trade investment on the basis of your intention of holding.

An investment with an intention to make a profit by trading it into the market is a trading investment. If you hold an investment with an intention to earn the profit by selling it, it's called a trade investment.

An investment for a longer period of time and with an intention of interest, dividend or rent or capital gain on the sale is a non-trade investment.
