Can I claim a deduction for the principal payment of education loan under section 80E (of Income Tax Act, 1961)?

Section 80E deals with the interest on loan taken for pursuing higher education. Thus, interest paid on the education loan will be deducted from the total income.

However, a principal amount paid on loan shall not be eligible for the deduction.
