First of all, you have to know that the Aadhaar Act has specified certain conditions and you have to fulfill these to get your Aadhaar.

Aadhar is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) under the Adhaar act.

The Aadhaar act states that every person who is in India for more than 182 days in a year shall be eligible for obtaining Aadhaar.

The procedure to make an application for Aadhaar is same for all, regardless of their nationality. 

If so, what is the the procedure to apply for Aadhaar?

  • Initially, you have to find Aadhaar enrollment center located near by you. 
  • Then you can book an appointment online from official website that will prevent you from standing in a long queue. However booking an appointment is not compulsory but it will help you save time.
  • Keep all your documents as mentioned below for the proof of identity and proof of address. After that you need to fill the application form. 
  • After submitting the form, you need to provide the fingerprints of both your hands, thumbs and retinas.

Then, you will instantly get 14 digit enrollment number slip which can be used to track and download your e-aadhaar number.

 What are the documents that need to be furnished ?

Along with two passport sized photographs, the following are the documents that should be furnished by an applicant who may be Indian resident or a foreign citizen. 

Proof of identity

You will need to search for a gazetted officer from your area and get a form signed. This includes your photograph, Name, Date of Birth, Address and Parent’s name etc. You can submit this form to the Enrollment center to apply for your Adhaar.

Proof of Address

You can bring the rent agreement for the proof of address. You can also show your Bank statement or electricity bills etc.

Date of Birth 

This can be any document you have as a foreign national. Just your passport will be enough.

The most important thing is that holding an Aadhaar or merely applying for it does not mean that you have received Indian citizenship.Rather it’s simply a proof of identity.
