Excercise of good leadership is required for every organisation. The success of any organisation is a result of functions performed by the leadership.

Who is a leader?

A person who holds a dominant or superior position within its field and is able to exercise a high degree of control or influence over others is a leader.

A leader does not only exercise the degree of power to influence others but also ensures the committed involvement of employees and creates the environment of ownership of every department and member of departments.

Why is leadership important in an organisation?

Leadership having a clear vision can communicate a positive message to whole members and can create an effective environment for the organization to achieve their goals.

Role of leader is not limited to direct employees, in addition, a leader should motivate his supporters to achieve their personal goals by contributing to the common goal of the organization.

What is leadership in an organization?

Peter Drucker states that  Leadership is not making friends and influencing people, i.e, salesmanship it is the lifting of man’s visions to higher sights, the raising of man’s personality beyond its normal limitations.

Leadership is a function of management which helps maximize efficiency and achieve organizational goals.

It is a process of influencing people to perform assigned tasks efficiently and effectively.  A good leader can help develop a harmonical organizational culture.

It is an important element of the directing function of management. Every organisation have the organized group of people working towards a common goal and surely it needs some type of leadership to guide and direct members towards the organisational goals.

The main purpose of leadership in an organisation is to integrate the whole organisation.

The leader ensures the involvement of the whole organisation in realising organisational goals. Managers must influence the team for work accomplishment through leadership.

A management without a leader. What would happen?

If the management does not have a strong representative of the employees, informal leadership will develop which might regulate the behaviour of the members and may develop into a conflict of managerial leadership.

The responsibility of a leader is not dealing with every single problem that arises in the workspace. Rather he inspires others  and provides directions to solve the problems.

Good leaders recognize that they do not have all the answers and are constantly re-educating themselves on their businesses and sharpening their leadership skills.
