Six sigma methodology- DMADV

Six sigma methodology- DMADV

Here in this article we shall understand the Six Sigma Methodology- DMADV and how it helps to achieve Six Sigma.

Six sigma is an approach which always intends to provide defect free processes and products, and improve the processes which are constraints to the business processes.

Six sigma, is a method which shows the way for an organization to improve their business processes. It guides the business to the path of improved performance, reduced variations, improved profits, robust employee morale and provide quality in their products and services.

Six sigma always aims to achieve perfection on the operation and provides customers with the quality products or services.

Also, it always demands the understanding every aspect of  business process and products which will bring efficiency in the business operation.

There are two methodologies of Six Sigma Analysis. They are DMAIC and DMADV.

We have discussed DAMIC in detail in the earlier article : Six Sigma Methodology. You can use the link for detailed analysis. We shall discuss DMADV in this article.

DMADV methodology is strategy for restructuring process and products used to create new product to design the processes and products to get the defects free products.

Then, when DMADV methodology should apply?

It should be used when an organization is in a process of developing a new product or service. Further, it would be effective when using DMAIC for a current project or process fails.

Again, just like DMAIC, DMADV 8s an acronym for the steps followed in implementing six sigma. It is a strategy for designing new products, processes and services.

Define:

Same as DMAIC, experts should formally discuss what they want to achieve. It means they have to define goals of the design activity that are consistent with strategy of the organisation and the demands of the customer.

Measure:

Next identify the factors that are critical to quality . Measure factors such as product capabilities and production process capability. Also identify the risks involved.

Analyze: Since, you have already identified the business goals and constraints involved to achieve these goals, it is a time to develop and design alternatives. Create high-level design and evaluate to select the best design.

Design:

Among alternatives generated, organisation requires to make a choice and develop details of design and optimise it. Then ensure that selected alternatives help achieving goals.

Verify:

Verify designs through simulations or pilot runs. Verified and implemented processes are handed over to the process owners.

So, this is the DMADV methodology in six sigma. It helps to your organisation in eliminating errors, improve Business Processes, sustain quality improvement in organizations which ultimately lead towards business goals.
