Sometimes your client will disclose to you its budget for your job. It is normally reasonable. So when you're quoting your fees, always provide one option that is above this budget limit and two fee options within the budget limitation, so you’re not risking anything but just may be laying the groundwork for higher profits. I lost a piece of business once to a competitor who came in over budget but offered far more than the buyer had specified. I didn’t have to learn that lesson twice.
