Don't let the client corner you. If the client asks prematurely, simply tell the client, "I can’t quote a fee until I have more information. In fact, it would be unfair to you if I do such—but I can have the options ready within 24 hours." Remember, when consultants allow themselves to be forced into fee quotes prematurely, they almost always quote too low, and the prospect expects to negotiate down from there. Every prospect can easily wait 24 hours.
