Truth to be told, conglomerate diversification has no common thread at all with the firm’s present position. For example, the businesses of Godrej are diversified into furniture, soaps, oils, insecticides and so on.

Conglomerate diversification is growth strategy that involves adding new products or services that are significantly different from the organization's present products or services.

Conglomerate diversification occurs when the firm diversifies into an area(s) totally unrelated to the organization current business.

In other words, when an organization adopts a strategy which requires taking up those activities which are unrelated to the existing businesses, either in terms of their respective customer groups, customer functions or alternative technologies, it is called conglomerate diversification.
